At the University of Surrey our School of Law is one of the most vibrant, stimulating and innovative law schools in the UK.

Our academics are world class scholars in the fields of comparative law, international and European law, international economic law, intellectual property law, environmental law, legal philosophy and legal theory, and socio-legal studies.

Our School of Law is home to four research centres: the China Law Centre, the Environmental Regulatory Research Group, the Surrey International and European Law Research Group and the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy.

So many exciting things happen in our School of Law. The Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy recently received a major international grant award for their work; the Surrey China Law Centre welcomed academics from Beijing Jiaotong University School of Law to explore potential collaborative opportunities; the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy co-hosted the Surrey Workshop on the Regulation of AI; and our School of Law presented a panel discussion on problems with the UK’s criminal system.

Our students are given the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in their chosen field through extracurricular activities such as client interviewing, mooting and our renowned Professional Training placement programme. Our students are able to gain valuable work experience through their placements, such as Cameron McCoig who worked at Spelthorne Borough Council, Jessica Burgess who did her placement at Toyota, and Hana Bibi who split her time between two law firms, one in London and one in New York through our study abroad programme.

Read what our subject leaders had to say when we asked them what makes our law degrees different, and the secret behind our graduates’ success.
