Biosciences and medicine

Here at the University of Surrey, we are proud to be ranked in the top 10 in the UK for biosciences by the Guardian University Guide 2019 and ranked 4th for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2018. But our performance in the league table rankings is just the tip of the iceberg. If you look below, there’s so much more to discover.

Our School of Biosciences and Medicine is home to a vibrant research community and an innovative teaching and learning environment. Our biosciences students benefit hugely from access to our specialist teaching laboratories which help them develop their analytical and research skills. Such as our £10 million Innovation for Health Learning Laboratory which opened in 2017.

Our academics work on world-class research and are always finding exciting ways to share biosciences with the world. You can watch a variety of their Facebook live videos, where they discuss the biochemistry of Christmas dinner, the science behind chocolate, how to stay safe in the sun, and the science behind vaccines.

Our renowned Professional Training placement programme gives our students the opportunity to develop their professional, academic and personal potential with a placement in industry. Such as Aaron Watkins who worked at Fitzpatrick Referrals, Gareth Raynes who worked at Surrey Research Park, and Josephine Amosah who travelled to the USA to work at the Planchart-Mattingly lab at North Carolina State University.

No matter what area of biosciences interests you, there are so many reasons to study or research biosciences and medicine at Surrey.
