None of the other universities I had looked at were as friendly or welcoming as Surrey. As soon as I walked onto campus, I knew it was the right university for me.
I’m currently working as a frontend developer for the Government Digital Service (GDS), which is part of the Cabinet Office. GDS are responsible for developing and maintaining a number of cross-government platforms, including the UK Government website.
A degree in computer science or computing and information technology from Surrey certainly sets you up for a career in this field. My advice to future students would be to take the time to consider accessibility, performance and security when working on projects. Since starting my job I’ve realised that programming is so much more than just coding – it’s about fully considering the needs of all your users.
