The beautiful green campus was what originally inspired me to study at the University of Surrey. Upon further investigation I discovered that they offered a year in industry as part of the course, which is what made me choose to study here.
The professional training and experience in industry is what ultimately provided me with opportunities after I graduated. I experienced working in a laboratory environment and also developed a number of transferable skills, such as communication and people skills.
I am currently studying for my PhD, which I began straight after graduating from my undergraduate degree. The experiences I gained throughout my time at Surrey, and during my placement at GlaxoSmithKline, allowed me to progress straight onto a PhD. My advice to students who want to do a PhD would be to work hard, make note of any experiences for your CV and get involved in extracurricular activities.
