I chose to study at the University of Surrey because it was one of the best universities in my field. The course was well taught and included lots of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It covered a wide variety of areas of microbiology, including management and scientific research. We were also lucky to attend talks by guest lecturers from external laboratories, who would enlighten us about current trends in microbiology and share their experiences of working in this field.
I am currently a specialist biomedical scientist in the Department of Microbiology at Southend and Basildon University Hospital. I enjoy all aspects of the laboratory work I do, and I have started to involve myself more in the management side of things. My time at Surrey made me more confident and prepared me for the future.
